This is the work that gets us out of bed in the morning. Architectural metalwork transforms spaces in ways no other material can. Railings and Handrails
Railings are probably our most requested architectural item, and for good reason. They're functional, they're visible, and they set the aesthetic tone for staircases, balconies, and decks.
We build cable railing systems for clients who want clean, modern lines that preserve views. Glass panels with metal frames deliver contemporary elegance for high-end residential and commercial spaces. Traditional iron picket railings remain versatile and timeless. Horizontal bar designs hit that modern industrial aesthetic that's popular right now. And we do fully custom artistic railings for clients who want something nobody else has.
The key with railings is that they have to look beautiful while meeting strict building codes. We engineer every railing system to code from the start, not as an afterthought.
Staircases
A metal staircase can be the single most impactful feature in a building. We've fabricated floating staircases with no visible support structure that make people stop and stare. Spiral staircases that are as sculptural as they are functional. Mono-stringer designs with a single central beam that create a sense of openness. And classic wood-tread-on-steel-stringer combinations that blend warmth with industrial strength.
The engineering behind a staircase is more complex than most people realize. Load calculations, deflection limits, connection design, and code compliance all have to be resolved before we start cutting steel. We handle all of that in-house.
Pergolas and Shade Structures
We've converted a lot of homeowners who were originally planning wood pergolas. Once they understand that a steel pergola won't warp, rot, attract termites, or need refinishing every few years, the decision becomes straightforward. Steel handles heavier loads too, which means ceiling fans, lighting, and even retractable shade systems are all on the table. We powder coat in any color, and the structure will look the same in twenty years as it does the day we install it.
Awnings and Canopies
Metal awnings protect entries and windows while adding architectural character that ages gracefully. We build standing seam designs, modern flat-panel canopies, decorative bracket-supported awnings, and designs with integrated lighting. In Arizona's climate, a well-designed metal awning pays for itself in energy savings by shading south and west-facing glass.
Our Take on Material Selection
We work with every common architectural metal, and our recommendation depends on the application.
Mild steel is the most affordable and versatile option. It takes any shape and finish but needs proper coating to prevent corrosion. Stainless steel is our choice for low-maintenance, modern applications where the budget supports the premium. Aluminum makes sense when weight matters, like large overhead canopies, or in coastal environments. Corten steel is outstanding for projects where the natural rust patina is a design feature. And wrought iron is still the right call for ornate, traditional work with heavy, hand-forged character.
Building Code Is Not Negotiable
Every piece of architectural metalwork we fabricate meets or exceeds building code requirements. Railing heights of 36 inches minimum for residential, 42 inches for commercial. Baluster spacing that won't allow a 4-inch sphere to pass through. Graspable handrail profiles between 1.25 and 2 inches in diameter. Load resistance of 200 pounds concentrated. ADA compliance for all commercial and public applications.
We've seen metalwork from other shops fail inspection because code compliance was treated as an afterthought. In our shop, it's built into the design from day one.
Why Cheap Metalwork Costs More in the End
We'll be direct about this. Cheap metalwork fails in predictable ways, and we've been called to replace a lot of it. Welds crack under thermal cycling when they weren't executed with proper technique. Paint peels within a year or two from poor surface preparation. Water infiltrates at attachment points that weren't properly sealed. Connections loosen because the design didn't account for the loads. And code violations surface during inspections, requiring expensive rework.
